My Artist Statement.

Artist Statement

My name is Desiree Wilson, and as an artist, I like enhance images. Whether it’s on paper, on a computer, or on an enlarger, I like to enhance images, just to see if my version of something is more interesting than the original. Most of the time, my version can’t quite compare to the original, but every once in a while, the pictures I take turn out alright, which makes me really excited.
My inspiration to take up Photography came from Ms. Moore, in a funny non-suck-up way. I originally signed up to take ceramics in high school, because my sister told me it was her favorite class. My best friends older sister told me to take photo because it was better. So, my first choice was obviously ceramics. But luckily, Ygnacio Valley High decided to put me into Photo 1, fifth period. I was one of the laziest kids in the whole class, where I only messed around with my “photo buddies” who sat at my table. The whole year I barely did any work at all, and all of the work I did do was because Ms. Moore told I’d fail if I didn’t. So I would work. I realized after the class was over that photo was something that I actually enjoyed. So, I came back my junior year. This time, I had new photo buddies, and was probably just as lazy, when Ms. Moore told me that she would fail me if I didn’t start doing my projects. So, I did them, and I remembered how much fun it was to develop. Then, I came back for my senior year. Yet again, I found myself with new photo buddies. Yet again, I was still lazy, because old habits die-hard. And, as an enormous shock, Ms. Moore still had to tell me to do my projects. I was getting back into my photo habits, when I had to leave the class for a while. While I was gone, I missed photo. I missed the chemicals, the people, the darkroom, the mac-lab, and my teacher nagging on me to do my work. So, after an enormous amount of effort that I normally don’t exert, I yet again came back. I am still lazy, and still have to be reminded to do my work by Ms. Moore, but all of my inspiration for all of my work has rooted from her. I now like bringing film cameras camping, to friends’ houses, around my house and nearly everywhere I go, using all of the techniques I learned from my photo teacher, and look at all the things around me. I take pictures, and change them to look the way I think they should look, and my immediate thought is to look for Ms. Moore so that she can A) help me make it better or B) stop nagging me
